Nerc Sees Reliability Concerns For Western Canada

Western Canada was identified as region that would require more resources to meet target capacity margins over the next two years as part of a 10-year forecast produced by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). In releasing its Long-Term Reliability Assessment (LTRA), NERC advised that generation additions are projected to significantly outpace new transmission development overall, which will increase only slightly for the 10-year forecast period. Besides the immediate concern in the West, NERC projected that winter net capacity resource margins in Canada would decrease over the 10-year forecast period.
