Study Urges Territory To Regulate Resources Effectively

A study of the Northern Canada regulatory regimes suggests the Northwest Territories (NWT) take a hard look at how it regulates major resource projects, especially in the Mackenzie Valley.rnThe report, filed by Neil McCrank, former head of the Alberta Energy & Utilities Board (EUB), was ordered by federal Indian and Northern Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl last November as part of the Northern Regulatory Improvements Initiative.rnThe study has 22 recommendations, many focusing on the long wait times project developers have faced when dealing with some Northern regulatory boards. Some recommendations appeared in earlier reports, while many others dealt with the environmental review process in the North.
