Electricity Requirements May Fuel Supply To U.s. West

Demand for Canadian natural gas in the Western United States will continue to rise over the next decade, fuelled mainly by the growth in use for power generation, say new studies. A California Energy Commission (CEC) staff report forecasts an overall growth in gas demand of 1.3% annually between now and 2017, led by a 2.4% growth in the electric power sector to 2.83 bcf per day from the current 2.22 bcf a day. The power generation rise will offset reduced demand in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
