Quick View: Outlook Improves As Bosnian Cable TV Consolidates

The Latest: Telekom Srpske (Telekom Srbija’s subsidiary in Bosnia- Herzegovina) is to acquire cable operator Blicnet from Telekom Slovenije. The deal is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. Implications: This acquisition will see the market move towards a higher degree of consolidation and increased investment in underlying multimedia infrastructure and content. Reportedly, Telekom Srpske is looking for a second cableco to acquire and we believe that Elta Kabel, which also has a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) business, would be a strategically attractive fit for the expanding business. In this way, Telekom Srpske will cement its presence in the Bosnian cable TV market and intensify the competition between four big companies (BH Telecom, HT Eronet, United Group and Telekom Sprske itself), benefiting both the industry and consumers.
