Android Fragmentation A Hindrance To Google's AI Goals

Google has made two recent significant announcements. The first is that Google Assistant, its artificial intelligence (AI) service,rnwill be available on iOS devices. It had originally been launched on Google's own Pixel devices only, before expanding to otherrnvendors' devices using the Marshmallow or later iterations of the Android operating system(see 'Google Assistant: GainingrnGreater Control Over The User Experience', October 5 2016). The second is the launch of Project Treble, which aims to speed uprnupdates within the Android ecosystem, and as such, avoid fragmentation. We believe there is a link between the twornannouncements, as Google, facing competition from Amazon's Alexa, wants to consolidate its leadership in the AI space, and itrnneeds to be available in as many devices as possible to achieve its goal.
