Early 5G Still Needs A Business Case

The 3GPP, the standards body in charge of mobile technologies, has agreed to accelerate its timeline in relation to 5G, makingrnthe technology available from 2019 instead of 2020. This is because technical specifications for a non-standalone New Radiorn(NR) for 5G, based on current LTE technology, will be completed in Q417, with a standalone version completed and availablernfrom Q218. We believe the move was made to avoid too much fragmentation of the technology, as many operators and vendorsrnhave gone ahead with developments, but 5G still requires a clear business case.
