Overall, electro-mechanical scooter starter solenoids are cheap enough — but the downside is that they're not very reliable. The contact resistance increases over time, the coil can be open-circuited due to the vibration, and sometimes the power contacts weld up. One solution is to replace them with a solid-state relay. In DC mode, we'll need to use a MOSFET transistor.
