Android User Interface Builder

A user interface is almost always needed when controlling and testing a piece of hardware. Ideally the interface would show data on a display and provide a keyboard for entering commands. Surely it should be possible to use a smartphone for the job? The FTDI FT311D is a flexible bridge that can interface your circuit to an Android smartphone or tablet. It offers options for seven digital outputs, four PWM outputs, asynchronous serial and I~2C and SPI interfaces. To make things simple we have designed a small board to carry the chip: introducing the 'Elektor Android breakout board'.
