By now, you may well have become thoroughly bored with the Millennium. At least one engineering project, however, promises to be both spectacular and a triumph for British engineers - The London Eye. If you are in central London over the next few weeks, then it will be worth spending a few minutes down on the Embankment to witness the construction of a most unusual mechanical engineering project. On the river Thames, slightly downstream from Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament, engineers are constructing the world's largest observation wheel. Named the 'British Airways London Eye', it is scheduled to be in operation for the turn of the new millennium. When completed, the London Eye will be the fourth tallest structure in London and from its 32 fully enclosed glass cabins, passenger will have spectacular views of London and its environs for up to 25 miles. The designers have allowed for up to 15,000 passengers per day.
