For pulse compression processing, a range sidelobe suppression method previously reported for the derivation of a pulse compression filter window function realizes a zero range sidelobe on the time constraint points and simultaneously minimizes the S/N loss corresponding to the signal loss. The present paper presents an evaluation by simulation of the pulse compression processing performance based on this design method. It is found that filter design by about fourfold oversampling is adequate and that characteristics better than those achieved by the conventional window function scheme can be obtained in terms of the peak sidelobe level, S/N loss, and compressed pulse width, indicating that the present design procedure is effective. The performance deterioration due to the Doppler shift is similar to that in the conventional method and thus is acceptable for practical purposes.
