The two technologies in use 20 years ago for manufacturing wind turbine blades were hand-laid-up glassfibre-polyester composites ('GRP' in the chart) and hand-laid-up wood-epoxy composites. These two were similar in price but with the wood-epoxy blades typically showing a weight advantage.rnIn recent years, as blades have got bigger, and also as manufacturing processes have striven to become both quicker and more hygienic, new manufacturing processes have been developed. The key question now in composites manufacturing is: 'When do you add the resin to the fibres?'
