Traditional three-phase sinusoidal commutation has been a good choice for smooth current control for accurate torque control in brushless motors. However, if you need to increase rotational speed, the only way to do that is by increasing the bus voltage. There is another control method available with the same torque-control feature: digital space-vector modulation. It has an added advantage of a 15% increase in available bus voltage―good news for engineers wanting to make their motors go faster on the same bus voltage. Let's compare both methods to see how that can be.
