Choosing displays for mobile applications

Shock, vibration, and dirt are probably the most common causes of failure for flat-panel displays in harsh environments such as vehicle applications. Most passenger vehicles and passenger aircraft rarely subject their occupants to accelerations much greater than 2 g, and the dirt that can damage an electronic device is hardly noticeable to its human inhabitants. Off-road vehicles, racecars, fight- er aircraft, and spacecraft can generate much higher levels of shock and vibration (and expose their interiors to higher levels of dust and dirt).
