Alternatives to SBCs for packet-based wireless

Regardless of which air interfaces dominate next-generation wireless networks, packet-based data will be the dominant traffic type. Circuit-switched voice traffic will occupy only a fraction of the bandwidth. Dramatic increases in compute density have been driven by a need to provision for this new packet-based requirement in the wireless infrastructure. A transition phase from a predominantly circuit-switched network to one that is packet switched has been projected to involve the need for a tenfold increase in the amount of signaling among nodes in the network―and this does not include future demand for additional capacity.
