Already a popular commodity in the datacom and telecom indus-tries, high-density dc/dc converters are also showing tremendous potential growth in new markets adopting distributed-power architecture. Board space continues to be at a premium as end-user applications keeps shrinking. Microprocessor and IC roadmaps are driving such devices toward lower voltages, higher current, and faster transient response. Designers must also consider any unique load requirements, input-line disturbances, mounting considerations, operating temperature and life effects, and the operating environment.
