How many datasheets have we, as engineers, reviewed that included all of the data we need? If your experiences are like mine, very few times if at all. To compound the problem, the data listed pertaining to your project was measured at a temperature much different than where you are planning to run your board. Choosing the correct power inductor may seem like an easy task. Choose the inductance needed for your switch-mode power supply, verify temperature rise on the datasheet, and you're off. However, if the specified part is for a temperature rise at 25 ℃, and your board is going to see an ambient temperature of 75 ℃, will that part work?
