New energy-efficiency regulations for external power supplies

In January 2005, Energy Star announced new standards for the efficiency of external power supplies (EPS). The Energy Star standard has now been adopted by Europe, China, Australia, and three U.S. states—including California—amounting to a de facto global standard for the broadest segment of the power supply market. OEMs will be particularly concerned with the Australia and California (CEC) regulations, which will be mandatory and are scheduled to take effect in April and July 2006, respectively.
