Wireless Usb: Adding Wireless Without Pain

Until recently, the reality of adding wireless capabilities to existing products has varied from somewhat challenging to downright painful. But adding Wireless USB to devices that traditionally use cables is easier than you may realize. Upgrades can be as easy as plugging in a daughtercard and adding a small amount of control software. Wireless USB is part of the family standardized by the USB-IF, and is based on the WiMedia specification for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) radio, operating in the 3 to 9-GHz range. Wireless USB is the new kid on the block when it comes to short-range wireless connectivity, and it is finding its way into an increasing number of notebook PCs from major vendors such as Dell, Lenovo, NEC, Fujitsu, and Toshiba. Market forecasts are predicting hundreds of millions of units being shipped over the next few years.
