A line of inductive planars are designed for automotive applications are specifically designed for dc/dc converters and traction inverters in hybrid vehicles. The planars were developed in a novel vacuum potting process that allows isolation levels to 10 kV. Power rating is from 2.5 to 7.2 kW in a 5-cm height and footprint of less than 50 cm~2 room area. The geometry of the planars enable the core to be connected to the main heat sink. Rated losses are below 1% of total output power and effects such as skin and proximity have been reduced.
