High-brightness LEDs handle high currents coolly

Housed in PLCC 4 packages with lead frames optimized to provide thermal resistance as low as 290 K/W, VLMx32 series surface-mount LEDs can dissipate up to 200 mW and so can handle drive currents to 70 mA. This allows them to have high luminous intensity: 1,400 to 2,850 mcd, or twice the brightness of the company's previous high-intensity SMT LEDs. Available in amber (610 to 621 nm) and yellow (585 to 594 nm), the solid-state lighting devices are aimed at a broad range of applications: automotive interior and exterior lighting (they are automotive qualified per AEC-Q101), traffic signals and signs, interior and exterior lighting, audio/video indicators and backlighting, telecommunications and office equipment, and flat backlighting for illuminated advertising, LCDs, switches, and symbols in general use.
