University of Florida researchers began working on how to charge portable devices wirelessly about two years ago when student Ryan Tseng chose it as his engineering honor's thesis with his adviser professor Jenshan Lin. They have made significant progress on the challenge and created a company, WiPower, based on the research. Although the university is not the first to design a wireless charging device, with some companies possibly bringing a product to market later this year, the research did yield some impressive specs.
