Digital power modules have made it easy for any designer, not just an analog wizard, to create robust feature-rich board level power-distribution systems. By using integrated modules that could be configured, usually with just a few external passive components to select the desired voltage levels, current levels and features power supply design was significantly simplified. Even boards with a variety of DSPs, ASICs, FPGAs and CPUs could be easily powered using advanced power bus converters, that take the higher chassis voltages (perhaps between 40-60V) and create lower board-level voltages, to feed the point-of-load (PoL) modules that supply the final voltages for individual devices.
