Israel-based BrightCom Technologies chose four ARC cores for the heart of its BIC5004 chip, which uses a proprietary technology, Intelli-MAC, to implement the media access controller (MAC) and higher layers of the protocol stack. Simpler MAC and network layer implementation is possible through distribution of software tasks over a group of interconnected processors on a single chip. Using the ARC processor helps the SoC device achieve the key design goals of reduced overall systems cost; small footprint and reduced power consumption.
