While traditional 16bit and 32bit microcontrollers will continue to play a major role in the future embedded control market, it is expected that a large number of system applications within the automotive, telecom and computer peripheral markets will require higher performance and processing levels than these architectures are able to deliver. Analysts predict that the next generation of products within these market segments will need more real-time embedded RISC controllers with enhanced capabilities in the DSP arena.
