Las Vegas — The connected digital home—a vision extolled by hundreds of companies in recent years but thwarted by a lack of home networking—could move closer to reality this year on a handful of coaxial, powerline and wireless technologies. "We've been talking about this stuff for years, but this is the year where it looks like it will all come together," Paul Liao, chief technology officer for Panasonic in North America, said last week at the 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show here. The technologies on the horizon would be stitched together in a network quilt that might overcome some obstacles of the past.
