China gains ground in solar

THE GLOBAL SOLAR CELL industry is increasingly looking like the next Chinese strong suit. Among the 12 leading solar cell manufacturers in the second quarter were six Chinese manufacturers that collectively accounted for 55 percent of shipments, up from 43 percent a year ago, according to a report by industry consultancy Solarbuzz. What's more, four of last quarter's top five solar cell manufacturers in terms of shipments were Chinese vendors. U.S.-based First Solar led the top five, followed by China's Suntech Pow- er, JA Solar, Yingli Green Energy and Trina Solar, Solarbuzz said.
