Qualcomm forms Indian LTE joint venture

BANGALORE, INDIA — Qualcomm Inc. has joined with Global Holding Corp. and Tulip Telecom Ltd. as initial shareholders in an LTE wireless joint venture in Indis. The partners said the new venture would help speed LTE deployment in the country, complementing 3G HSPA and Ev-DO networks. If the venture is approved by government regulators, Qualcomm would hold a 74 percent stake; Global Holding and Tulip Telecom would each control 13 percent. San Diego-based Qualcomm won licenses for broadband wireless spec- trum in four Indian regions during recent spectrum auctions. But India's foreign direct investment regulations prohibit foreign companies from independently offering telecom services.
