摘要

SCADA forms the heart of power systems supervision and remote control systems. SCADA and IED go hand in hand to greatly enhance substation automation and reduce human intervention. Older SCADA protocols left many IED features unutilized. Various tools and standard protocols (IE 61850) coming over those problems. Customizable levels of trust required in Power Grid infrastructure for security and reliability. Security partitioned applications provide the general solution Configurable coprocessors helps such applications possible. Configurable Hardware using FPGA can be used for achieving different levels of protection. Intelligent Agents or Multi Agents play an important role in the future of power system protection. Power System Automation using Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED) using IEC 61850 protocols and interoperability between relays provides the future trends in evolving into an intelligent or smart grid.
