The utilization of compact fluorescent lamp by both domestic and commercial users in low voltage distribution system is increasing at an exponential rate. The main reason for such a high rate of increase in application is the electrical energy saving. However, the ill effects of its harmonic impact and poor power factor have been fully ignored by the users. In this paper, an attempt has been made to explain the construction, modeling, cost comparison and harmonic impact of the compact fluorescent lamp on the distribution system. This will provide a broad prospective for researchers and engineers dealing with the issue.
