Are electric vehicles running out of gas?

Honda Motor Co recently announced its exit from the battery-powered electric-vehicle market in California, where the company had an agreement with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to sell 300 vehicles this year. And, although GM, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda are still in the market, they too are struggling to build con-sumer demand for a sluggish vehi-cle that gets perhaps 100 miles be-tween charges and costs con-siderably more than a comparable gas-powered car. Taken at face val-ue, and ignoring the CARB's at-tempt to influence market effects, Honda's business decision appears perfectly reasonable and makes you wonder when the other manufacturers will follow suit.
