WHAT ABOUT SOFTWARE?

Silicon manufacturers and software developers have a love-hate relationship. Their businesses are symbiotic; compelling software content requires full-featured and high-speed-graphics silicon, and advanced graphics chips can't justify their high prices unless software exploits the chips' capabilities. But a delay almost always occurs from when a new chip goes into production to when comparably featured software appears, because software developers write to the largest possible installed base of users.
