60-GHz signal analyzer grabs waveforms faster than competing units

LeCroy Corp, which, until now, has been best known for its general-purpose digital scopes, is offering an unusual two-channel sequential-sampling unit. Like most of the instruments with which it competes, the MCA 1060 bears the name "communications signal analyzer." The name correctly suggests the instrument's specialized nature and primary application area but obscures the fact that, like general-purpose scopes, the $39,995 unit exists to capture and display waveforms, as well as analyze them. Moreover, the name says nothing about the instrument's 60-GHz, ± 5-dB bandwidth or its capture speed, which, for many waveforms, is significantly higher than that of competing units.
