It's Never Been Easy to be a design engineer, and I think it's getting harder. Both your IC and system designs are more complex in themselves, and the design constraints you face are more severe. As an additional chal-lenge, you're competing with designers and companies that have access to the same EDA tools-if they have the money, of course. But for designers at major IC companies, one barrier has prevented just anybody from coming in and doing what they do: the proprietary processes that give them an edge in the market in performance or cost.
