The architects of microsoft's Visual Stu-dio.NET may not have had data-acquisition and instrumentation applications in mind when they created their new environment for software development, deployment, and maintenance, but they didn't preclude the use of major portions of the impressive array of tools for work on such applications. In fact, Microsoft actively encourages third parties to extend the tool set to increase its usefulness to software engineers who focus on data acquisition and instrumentation.
