I have seen many presentations in which a vendor claims that its platform is ideal for handheld-application development that includes audio and video capabilities. During questioning, the conversation explores the vendor's development tools and support infrastructure, including third-party integrators and library providers. I have often wondered whether it is even half as easy as I am told it is to implement these capabilities on these platforms. Eventually, such wondering became the seed concept for a hands-on project: Would these development-support infrastructures allow someone without an expert knowledge of audio and video to include them in a design?
