After years of resisting the idea of phasing out gas-powered vehicles, the auto industry has made it clear that it will embrace President Joe Biden's plan to achieve net-zero carbon transportation, largely by increasing the transition to electric vehicles. The Alliance for Automotive Innovation (AAI), Washington, D.C., said in a statement that, "The U.S. auto industry is aligned with the Biden administration's goals to achieve net-zero carbon transportation and an accelerated shift to electric-drive vehicles, and is committed to working with the administration on a revised national program that includes California, brings all automakers under a unified set of com- mon requirements, and ensures a level, competitive playing field." The AAI was formed in 2020 by a joint effort of the Association of Global Automakers and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and represents companies that manufacture almost 99% of automobiles and light trucks in the United States, along with original equipment suppliers, technology companies and other automotive-related value chain partners.
