Digital potentiometers outperform their analog cousins

Unlike their analog counterparts, Microchip's MCP4XXXX family of digital potentiometers have their wiper positions changed over a standard SPI interface. These digital devices can function as both voltage dividers and rheostats. The digital pots offer 8-bit resolution (256 wiper steps), operate from 2.7 to 5.5V power supplies, feature 1 uA (max) static current, and operate over the -40° to +85℃ temperature ranee.
