February last Accellera sponsored a Design and Verification Conference (DVCon) in San Jose. The panel was titled "EDA: Dead or Alive?" Inquisitive though I was at the thought that EDA could be pronounced as dead, I am no more surprised at such talks of "dead-ism." I have attended meetings with leading FPGA vendors who say ASICs are all but dead. Of late I have been hearing that FPGAs are dead. A decade ago I would hear that Structured ASICs are dead. Designers should be wary of "dead-ism."
