摘要

The polls are closed, the ballots counted. It has been a long contest for the most powerful job going, a tight race run as much on matters of character and political acumen as on the issues. Now there is a winner, although he takes the reins under a cloud. His predecessor enjoyed a period of unprecedented economic expansion, but that glorious run could be coming to an end, making a tough job even tougher. For all his qualifications, including an Ivy League degree, the new man still has to convince the world that he is up to the job. And what was supposed to be a seamless transition has been complicated by an unexpected delay.
