Kosovo: The Way Ahead

On February 17, Kosovo will celebrate the first anniversary of its independence. Kosovo's independence and subsequent achievements, in fact, its very freedom, are true triumphs of the international community. It was the recommendations and comprehensive proposal of the UN Special Envoy, and laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize 2008, Maarti Ahtisaari, that provided the framework for independence. And it was with the encouragement and support of major international powers, including key players in the European Union, that Kosovo declared its independence as a sovereign State.rnKosovo's culture, geography and history place it at the center of the European family of democracies. We too place the utmost value on freedom, democracy, and peace; on a better life for this generation and the generations to come. Kosovo is committed to working with other nations to achieve these goals throughout the region and the world. We are working hard, both inside Kosovo and with the international community, to achieve these goals.
