The transformation of Africa's agriculture, and with it the iives of millions of people, is possible. This change can be achieved within a generation. Chaired by Mr Kofi Annan, and created through a unique partnership between the Gates Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation, AGRA aims to realise this vision now. The organisation is seeking a new President. He or she will lead the delivery of its ambitious programmes, be an advocate with partners at the highest levels, and ensure that AGRA has the resource needed to continue its vital work. Through a range of programmes, AGRA has created an integrated approach to supporting smallholder farmers to dramatically increase their output. Improvements in seed stock and agronomy are complemented by enhanced access to markets and financing. The result is a model for releasing the potential of Africa's farmers, decreasing food insecurity and increasing prosperity. AGRA aims to be a catalyst for change, by demonstrating the efficacy of this approach and facilitating the partnerships required to bring it to scale in the various contexts in which African farmers operate. Candidates for the role of President, will be gifted leaders. The new President will be an accomplished senior executive, with experience of leading a complex organisation in either the public or private sector. He or she will also be a compelling and authoritative ambassador for AGRA. Working alongside Mr Annan, the President will be the face and voice of the organisation, articulating its purpose and ensuring it has the resource it needs. Above all, the individual will bring a profound understanding of Africa and the challenges and opportunities facing its smallholder farmers.
