A sense of crisis gripped the White House over the botched roll-out of Obamacare. Nearly two months after its launch, the federal health-exchange barely works. Barack Obama proposed a fix to allow people to keep their health-insurance policies for another year, but that just caused more confusion and did not stop 39 Democrats from joining Republicans in the House to support a bill that would in effect gut his reform. A poll in the Washington Post put Mr Obama's approval-rating at 42%, the lowest point of his presidency so far.
