摘要

The Arabian Gulf and surrounding region include some of the world's fastest-growing economies and populations. Its seas are also among the busiest, but economic activity is putting marine ecosystems under threat. It's not a problem that can be solved by countries acting alone, according to the Gulf's biggest environmental regulator. "As the oceans and seas are an important shared resource, protection will require a collective and unified response," says Razanj Khalifa Al Mubarak, managingdirectorof Envi- ronment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD). As the United Arab Emirates (UAE) prepares to host The World Ocean Summit 2019 on March 5-7 at Abu Dhabi's St Regisi Saadiyat Island Resort, Ms Mubarak sees "a great opportunity to showcase and share best practice in marine protection and sustainable development of the blue economy".
