Landcare and private conservation trusts: Fertile common ground?

The late 20th century saw the emergence of two major private initiatives that had been brewing in Australia for some time - the movement loosely referred to as 'landcare' (but which includes other programs and other organizations) and the growth of private conservation trusts. Both these initiatives are now well established as mechanisms for improving private biodiversity conservation in rural areas. We can cautiously hope that the natural affinities between the two will progressively generate more and more solutions for biodiversity conservation in rural areas.
