Oil prices slide

The recovery in oil prices at the start of the month could not be sustained. WTI prices opened the month at $81.30/bbl, an increase of $2.40/bbl from the last closing. Better performance in the global equity market and declining crude stocks in the US (amid rising refinery runs) pushed prices beyond $82/bbl in the first week of August.
