New ordering in the LNG sector has slowed down again as not even a single vessel has been ordered during the last two months. This is a reversal from the trend observed at the beginning of the year when six LNG vessels (including three FSRUs) were ordered during the first quarter. A lack of orders is good for the long-term outlook of LNG shipping, and we stick to our spot rate forecast of $65,000pd for 2019. Meanwhile, the pace of deliveries is steady as two more vessels (including an FSRU) were delivered in May. As a result of new deliveries and weak ordering, the orderbook in the LNG segment continues to decline. At end-May, the LNG orderbook stood at 113 vessels –15% less than in the same period last year.
