Onrnthe other hand, despite fall in the steelrnprices, the demolition market remainedrnactive in January. Two MPV vessels andrnone heavy-lift carrier were scrapped inrnSouth Asian yards in January. Scrappingrnactivity is expected to improve in therncoming months as the IMO’s environmentalrnregulations will continue to put shipownersrnunder pressure to send their older tonnagernto the scrapyards.rnThe MPV fleet will continue to get relief inrnthe coming months with high scrapping,rnlow deliveries and fall in new orders.rnShipowners prefer to acquire second-handrntonnage over newbuild vessels because ofrntight credit policies.
