It's not especially popular with the US dredging industry, but the US Army Corps of Engineers' computerised performance monitoring system that's currently installed on trailing suction hopper dredgers and barges is almost certain to be extended to cutter suction dredgers. The scheme began in 2006 (see IHS DPC October 2006), although the 'Silent Inspector' idea dates to Robert Hopman's 1986 concept paper. Today the name's changed to 'Dredging Quality Management' (DQM) and USACE has a centre dedicated to it.
