Android is an open-source mobile phone platform based on the Linux operating system. It was developed by the Open Handset Alliance, an association of phone operators and mobile hardware and software producers dedicated to the development of a more open, dynamic market. The platform is equipped with a series of dedicated graphics libraries, along with the Dalvik virtual machine as its runtime environment, and various pre-installed applications.
