TREASURE ISLAND SHE WAS AWARDED THE 2010 PRITZKER PRIZE TOGETHER WITH RYUE NISHIZAWA. SHE IS THE FIRST LADY ARCHITECT TO DIRECT THE VENICE ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE. HERE, KAZUYO SEJIMA TALKS ABOUT HER WORK IN CONNECTION WITH ART AND SOCIETY, FROM THE BOWERY IN NEW YORK TO THE ARSENALE IN VENICE
Stefano Casciani: It was nice to sit chatting under a tree in Rome last time, but on this occasion we're in Tokyo, and you've had such a long trip from Paris. Thank you very much for accepting to do this interview tonight.rnRegarding your work, I have the impression it is already in the future, but at the same time you always display a very factual, "everyday" and practical approach. So is your work more in the present or the future?rnKazuyo Sejima: My dream is that people come and at least have the chance to think about architecture (or art). I'd like them to get energy from it, even if they cannot immediately identify the exact sense about it. Sometimes it will look like art and sometimes like architecture. The way I work charges me with energy, so I'd like other people to feel that energy too.
